I'm guessing someone on another fan site doesn't like how well loves GWguru is.

I'd look at recently banned members if i was you Inde.

Whoever it is, it's not funny and is ruining Chippmas stop it now.

Death to the old Internet which allows abuse, you could avoid with new network systems.

I think computer usage with Internet connection should require some kind of "driving license" so there wouldn't be that much security issues to exploit because people would realize to update their firewalls, operating system, virus and spyware scanners, etc.

Also death to the stupid abusers who don't realize to focus their attacks to the targets which would cause larger, maybe global attention. Usually only script kiddies tease relatively small sites because they can't do better.

What do we do next?

sad to hear.
Best of luck to all, especially Inde.
Someone aparantly has nothing better to do then bring a non-commercial fansite hard times.
Sadness to the maximum.

Damn.. You seriously need a better provider

My brother's site got DDOS'ed too, and the provider where he used to be got lots of damage to the system. But at his new provider (XS4all), he gets DDOS'ed all the time, but he never had any problems at all.

DDOS attacks have brought down even large sites such as MSN, Yahoo, Microsoft.com. It should be over, but sometimes a server can only take so much.

Well, I can think of several adjectives ... but most of them would probably look something like this:

GO RED ENGINE GO RED ENGINE GO RED ENGINE GO

... so i'll just make it simple and a tad more polite by saying:

GET A LIFE YOU LOSER! (to whoever DDOS'ed us)

That is all

The problem of DDOS is the fact that everyone can do it. If you try searching for a DDOS program for 30 minutes, you'll find one, and can bring down sites with ease. This is how all those stupid guys react to getting banned for example.

GWG shares with most, if not all Guru sites, I guess. WoW...perhaps? WoW is full of whiners, since it's the most popular MMORPG - bringing forth higher chances for idiots to go crazy. If you can trace the IP of the attacker, maybe have the L2 admin search member profiles for that IP (you can do so in the admin control panel) and see if there's one. That can be done with IPB. I'm not sure if we run on invision...

question: how many machines are used to create a ddos attack ? can't you just block (firewall) the ip used by theses machines ?

sorry i did not read everything, but what is a DDOS attack? in simple english? My english is not that good. But is a DDOS attack something where like a script presses F5 a few 100? 1000? times a seconds on multiple computers to shut a site down as the server gets flooded with request which on time shut down the server? if so, my english is better then i thought ^^

A DDOS attack is when someone who stutters forces all Windows machines on a network to work in command-prompt-only mode.
